No boundaries

Ms. Jinky AguinaldoWhen being asked for an advice regarding career development, I take inspiration from my experiences. From the Taiwanese company where I was assigned different roles, to the energy provider company where I was mentored until I was part of its Corporate Planning, and finally, in Ayala Land under the Office of the President, I realized one thing. I will not be where I am today if I did not make the most of the opportunities that were given to me.

As a founder of LEAP, I want executive assistants all over the country to be motivated and to keep this in mind: do what is beyond expected of you because in this world, there are no boundaries for improvement.

Gain knowledge of the business you’re in, and maintain your drive and integrity. These will bring advantages to your line of work.

The role of an Executive Assistant is not limited to administrative tasks. Working with your bosses every day, you already become an important factor in the fulfillment of their responsibilities. Thus, you must equip yourselves with knowledge on the business, most especially on the aspects that your bosses usually deal with. In my case, one of the things I do is to prepare presentations needed for engagements or briefings, but I couldn’t have done these successfully if I did not study the nature and components of the business.

There are also opportunities for you to discover your potential when there are challenges in the workplace and allow yourself to contribute a solution. Remember that while you can opt to wait for the resolution and help in the execution, you can also give valuable suggestion on how to resolve problems. Sometimes, you fail to recognize that your suggestions are valuable because of your day-to-day experiences in your work.

Never lose our drive and passion for your work. Apart from having the initiative to study and research on the things that you need to improve on, I encourage that you welcome bigger tasks and be part of different activities in the company. I also believe that part of having the drive is to make sure that you think ahead so that everything is ready before the boss asks for it. Be a strategic thinker. This way, you can take time out, explore, network with colleagues, or start a project that maybe valuable not only for yourself but also for the company.

Lastly, it is also important that you do your work with integrity. Follow company policies, respect confidentiality and disclose accurate information. Choosing to do the right thing gives more confidence and strengthens your values system.

These are only few of the many ways in which you can raise the bar in performing your role as executive assistants. Discover new talents and learn new skills. We have a whole lifetime to work on what we want to achieve so do not be discouraged by little bumps along the way.

You set your own boundaries, so choose to explore and grow.
